Many medical research teams and scientists use the services and expertise of various biotechnology companies to help them study a host of different types of diseases. These firms are equipped to handle the high-tech processes that are often too time-consuming or expensive for a lab to do in-house, so having a source for various biotech services is quite important. After all, this is an industry that seeks to make the world a healthier, happier place where the diseases we face today are a thing of the past.

A monoclonal antibody is a specific antibody that can be made in the lab. They proved to be very useful because these antibodies can be used to fight diseases. They can be modified specifically to only target a certain antigen, such as one that is found on cancer cells which protects other healthy cells in the body. To do this a monoclonal antibody mimics the antibodies your body produces naturally as part of your immune system's response to germs, vaccines and other unwanted invaders. Creating one is a very complicated process, but one that is much needed by research teams; and that is why custom monoclonal antibodies are often created in special biotech labs.

Our body's protein is highly important and when something goes wrong with protein, this has the potential to cause many diseases. For example, there are neurodegenerative disorders that scientists believe are caused by protein-related problems, and this includes everything from Alzheimer's disease to Huntington's disease to Parkinson's disease. Scientists study proteins carefully to learn all they can about these degenerative diseases.

Biotech companies are now providing services such as custom peptide synthesis to aid in studies of proteins. The production of peptides, which are chains of amino acids that will eventually form proteins, is called peptide synthesis. Peptide synthesis occurs naturally in the body, but also can be created in a laboratory.

To counter or prevent these diseases and disorders from happening, scientists and researchers are studying protein expression and also protein sequencing. Technology and innovation has greatly lessened the burden of such tasks. Now there are a lot of helpful services that provide custom protein expression and protein sequencing. With their help, researchers can measure the amount of a specific protein in our cells or tissues and they can synthesize, modify this as they see them fit.

In protein sequencing, we find out exactly how the amino acids come together or link to form a protein. Once we know all we can about a sequence of a protein, we can try to develop drugs that will modify the protein in such as way that alters the course of a disease or other problems. Potentially curing diseases and improving human health is what the biotechnology industry is all about and why the industry is booming. Hopefully there are more discoveries and inventions in the field or biotechnology in the future.
